Daniel Glanz & Sutton Betti
Sculptors Daniel Glanz and Sutton Betti were awarded the Stanley Hotel Maze Sculpture Commission. The Stanley Hotel was the inspiration for Stephen King’s Overlook Hotel in his book The Shining. The hotel recently constructed a garden maze much like the fictional Overlook Hotel’s and decided to send out a call to artists for a sculpture to be included in the design. Glanz and Betti created a monument to the founder of the hotel, Freelan Oscar Stanley. Titled The Visionary, the sculpture depicts Stanley with a violin (symbolizing his former career as a violin maker) and leaning against a pillar which will detail all of Stanley’s accomplishments and contributions. The 7-foot tall The Visionary will be the centerpiece of the maze and is scheduled for installation in September 2016.
