The National Sculpture Society (NSS) has announced that Eugene Daub and Anne Olsen Daub; the City of Santa Fe Springs (Lesley A. Elwood, Elwood & Associates representing); and Robert McMahon will receive the Henry Hering Art and Architecture Award.

The award is given for outstanding collaboration between sculptor, owner and architect in the distinguished use of sculpture in an architectural project.

The award will be presented this year for the Founders Monument in Santa Fe Springs, California. The Founders Monument symbolizes a gateway that connects Santa Fe Springs’ past and future. The gateway is a cross section of earth; the watery blue glass represents the city’s water and sulphur springs; the obsidian symbolizes the oil industry which brought prosperity to the region and the orange sphere atop the gateway represents the citrus industry.

Eugene Daub’s delightful, six-foot wide bas-relief is a historic timeline depicting Santa Fe Springs’ early missionaries, Gabrielino-Tongva Tribe, the oil and citrus industries and modern life. The surrounding landscape design provides a pedestrian pathway that connects a busy mixed-use retail development with the historic Heritage Park.

The presentation will take place on Saturday, June 15, 2019 in New York City.

In 1893, leading sculptors and architects such as Daniel Chester French, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, and Stanford White founded the National Sculpture Society in New York City.  NSS first awarded the Henry Hering Memorial Medal in 1960.

Submissions for the Henry Hering Memorial Medal were reviewed by sculptors Jay Hall Carpenter, Richard Blake and Jennifer Nitzky, PLA, ASLA, ISA.
